Elizabeth Mitchell
Bowen Therpist

Bowen Therapist since 1992

Elizabeth came to healing therapies in 1985, when she learned Reiki. She left her Secondary school teaching job in 1991 after studying Clinical Massage, and set up practice as a massage therapist. Her interest in gentle, less invasive methods led her to study Bowen Therapy in 1992, and in her first 4 day course she knew that her mission was to work with animals.

Elizabeth became a teacher of Bowen Therapy in 1995, at the same time working with vets who assisted her in anatomical studies of dogs and horses, so that she could adapt the human based moves to animals. Successful results led to her developing manuals and conducting teaching courses as well as running her busy practice that encompasses treating people, horses, dogs and cats, with the occasional turkey or alpaca client to keep things interesting.

Since hanging up her dressage saddle and purchasing her first show dog, Kiri, in 2007, Elizabeth has become very involved in the dog show world, now having bred / titled 6 Golden Retriever Show Champions, as well as obedience titles.

She has shown her dogs to a high level, winning not only at All Breeds shows but at the Melbourne Royal and at Specialty shows, as well as breeding a number of litters under her 'Kiriel' prefix.

Over the decades Elizabeth has undertaken studies in many interpretations of Bowen; Equine Biomechanics and Dissection; a range of energy healing techniques, and is currently studying the Emmett Canine practitioners course. These various methods are incorporated into her work, treating each client according to their individual needs.

Elizabeth enjoys immensely working with show and performance dogs, helping them to perform at their highest level. Over her 20 years as an animal therapist she has treated many dogs with injuries or simply age related degeneration. Seeing this gentle work restore function and quality of life to a number of dogs that have been recommended be put to sleep is probably her greatest satisfaction.
